A new perspective on the 12 months

The dance performance “The Tale of the 12 Months” by VIRSKY – is a masterful adaptation of the famous fairy tale by the Czech writer Božena Němcová. It is a unique project in which classical Ukrainian dance, modern choreography, the magic of fairy-tale images, and innovative stage technologies come together on one stage for the first time.

The creators of the production have somewhat rethought and modernized the plot, endowing each of the 12 Months with its own character and unique choreographic language. Even the evil stepmother and her daughter change under the influence of love and courage of the delicate and gentle girl Marichka, the main heroine of the performance. How will she manage it? You will find out if you watch the performance “The Tale of the 12 Months”.

New Year's magic from VIRSKY

Due to numerous audience requests, special performances of the updated “The Tale of the 12 Months” will take place in November 2026. The production features new stage solutions, with more music and dance numbers. As a result, the duration of the performance has increased to – 1.5 hours of true wonder, warmth, and magic. At the same time, something remains unchanged in the performance “The Tale of the 12 Months”, namely:

• The main actors – are artists of the National Honored Academic Dance Ensemble of Ukraine named after Pavlo Virsky;
• Fantastic music specially composed for the performance by the talented composer Dmytro Saratsky. In the compositions, he combines folk instruments and national motifs;
• Amazing scenography. A large LED- screen is installed on stage, broadcasting author's animation for the performance. The light show and special effects create the effect of presence in a magical forest;
• Detailed costumes blending ethnic motifs with fairy-tale elements.
