We invite you to watch the play “Three Loves” – which is a theatrical tribute to Lesya Ukrainka, a woman who became a symbol of strength, talent, and indomitable spirit. And it was love that gave her great inspiration. This is exactly what the play “Three Loves” will tell about.
A story about the feelings that inspired Lesya Ukrainka
The play “Three Loves” – is a poetic and very personal story about Lesya Ukrainka, one of the most outstanding figures in our history and culture. The premiere of the production took place on February 26, 2021, and was dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Lesya Ukrainka's birth and the 80th anniversary of the awarding of the honorary name of Lesya Ukrainka to NADT.
This is not a biographical chronicle, but an attempt to look into the most subtle and least studied dimension of the poetess’s life – her love, experiences, and inner world. The play “Three Loves” reveals the lyrical relationships of the poetess with the men who left a mark on her fate: Maksym Slavinsky, Nestor Gambarashvili, Serhiy Merzhynsky, and Klyment Kvitka. Each of these stories – is a separate facet of her soul, a different experience of love: inspiration, pain, hope, loss, and acceptance. Through these relationships, the audience sees not only a brilliant writer but, above all, a living person – a woman who knew how to love deeply, sincerely, and unconditionally.
Three Loves of a Great Woman
The play features real poems and letters of Lesya Ukrainka performed by young actors. It is through them that her true voice is heard – honest, passionate, tender, and at the same time strong. The finale of the play is one of the poetess's most famous works “No, I will laugh through tears”, which sounds like the life manifesto of Lesya Ukrainka herself. And it resonates not only as a summary of her love stories but also of her entire life path – of struggle, pain, strength of spirit, and unbreakable faith in life.
