This is exactly how one can describe Serhiy Zhadan's poems in simple words. He – is the voice of contemporary Ukrainian art. His first publication took place in the 11-th grade, and since then the artist has been constantly seeking new poetic forms to reflect the themes that concern him.
Currently, Serhiy Zhadan – is one of the most famous figures of contemporary Ukrainian literature. He emphasizes that in these difficult times filled with silence and darkness, one must not forget culture and hold on to poetry. The poet finely senses the moods of society and is its peculiar tuning fork, conveying his feelings about today's events in poems. Because it is precisely in them that he helps to rethink difficult events, raising themes of love, loss, faith, God, and hope.
“Hymns of Baroque Wars” – is a book about life during the war
The collection includes poems, prose, and graphics created by Serhiy Zhadan in Kharkiv during 2024–2025. It is a kind of chronicle of a city that lives and resists, a story about people who do not lose their humanity even in the hardest times.
The author himself calls the book special, as it preserves names, faces, memories, and moments of light that help find answers even when uncertainty reigns around. And the presentation on September 20 at the “Ukraine Palace” will be the first exclusive opportunity to hear these texts performed by the author. That evening, texts, music, and contemporary lighting solutions will combine to create a space for sincere conversation about memory, love, loss, and the strength that helps endure.
Besides, the presentation of the new book will be a large-scale charity event. Because each purchased ticket will be a contribution to an important cause – 100% of the profit will be directed to the needs of the 2-nd corps of the NGU “Charter”. This is an opportunity not only to become part of a significant cultural event but also to support those who defend Ukraine today.
