We invite you to another stunning premiere from MODERN THEATRE – the play ‘The Prostitute’. It is a touching, shocking and provocative story about a difficult woman's fate, moral guidelines and the cruelty of our world. Come and enjoy a new interpretation of Ukrainian classics!
The drama of a woman's fate
The play ‘The Prostitute’ is the work of world-renowned director Dmytro Rachkovsky. The artist is famous for his unique approach to classic stories, so he personally adapted and modernised the novel of the same name by playwright Panas Myrny, one of the most powerful stories in Ukrainian literature, for the theatre. It is a socio-psychological drama that once reflected 19th-century society, but has not lost its relevance and meaning today, so it comes to life on stage with a new sound.
At the centre of the plot of ‘The Prostitute’ is Khristina, a young girl who finds herself on the brink of survival. Having lost her parents and left alone to face the cruelty of the world, she seeks refuge in Kyiv. Betrayal, humiliation, despair – all this becomes an integral part of her journey. And when it seems that there is no way out, cruel fate brings Khristina to an elite cabaret in the capital, marking another equally difficult stage in her life. Thus begins a story about the struggle for survival and the desire to remain oneself in a society governed by ruthless rules. Will Khristina be able to find her own happiness?
The power of classics in a modern interpretation
The play ‘The Prostitute’ performed by MODERN THEATRE is not just a provocative and painful adaptation of the classics, but a new reinterpretation of it. Here, the traditional plot is combined with modern stage techniques, music and choreography, which enhance the emotional effect. This is a performance about how the issues of morality, freedom and human dignity remain relevant today.
The play ‘The Prostitute’ is a mirror of unpleasant truths that every viewer will have to look into. Come and see another brilliant production by Dmytro Rachkovsky and MODERN THEATRE – a storm of real emotions is guaranteed!
