Театр «Актор»
The Actor Theatre is a unique phenomenon on the cultural map of Kyiv, where the main value has always been and remains the personality of the artist. Founded in 1987 by Valentyn Shestopalov, a prominent theatre and film actor and People's Artist of Ukraine, the theatre initially operated in a cafe format, which was completely new for Kyiv at the time. From the very beginning, the goal was to create a space where artists could realise their wildest creative dreams, open to everyone.
The Actor Theatre: a space for self-expression and creative discovery
For the first four seasons, the Actor Theatre operated in the format of a cafe theatre, offering Kyiv residents a new, relaxed way of experiencing theatre. The audience could enjoy the performances in a warm atmosphere that created the illusion of intimacy between the actors and the audience. In 2017, producer Slava Zhyla became the director and artistic director of the theatre. He brought a modern approach to the theatre's activities and defined a new direction of development, creating a manifesto according to which the Actor is developing in four main areas:
- Classics. Preserving the best traditions of theatre.
- Modernity. Productions that meet current social and cultural challenges.
- Alternative. Space for experiments by young directors and scriptwriters.
- Openness. A theatre accessible to a wide range of audiences with different tastes and expectations.
This is a place where new names on the theatre scene are definitely supported.
